Summer Art Camp
Red Star Studios will offer six one-week sessions that allow children ages 7 to 12 to immerse themselves in fun and focused arts projects, led by professional Arts Educators and Red Star Residents. Different themes and mediums will be explored in each session.
June 18th - 22nd - Tell me a Story!
Campers will learn about the art of story-telling and create their own stories through visual art projects and performance. Different types of stories will be covered along with the importance of words, imagery, and expression. There are not limits to the imagination!
July 9th - 13th - Get Your Game On!
Ever wonder how or why games like baseball or chess were invented? Games, sports, and more will be covered in this session, where campers will make chess sets, game pieces and creative toys, using clay, mixed media and textiles. The week will culminate with a game invented by the campers at Red Star!
July 16th - 20th - Cranes, Trains, and Automobiles
Campers will learn about different forms of transportation from around the world. From supersonic planes, high speed trains, off-road motorcycles, rickshaws, one-humped camels, to Belger cranes and vintage cars, transportation will be our inspiration. Clay, mixed media sculpture, and textiles will all be used to create innovative forms of transport.
July 23rd - 27th - Kansas City Week!
Campers will create projects inspired by Kansas City's rich history and culture. Barbeque, baseball, the Garment District, jazz, the Lewis and Clark trail and much more will be explored. This will be an exciting week where campers will learn about the special people, places, and things that make our city unique.
July 30th - August 3rd - Around the World in 5 Days
Have passport will travel! Campers will explore art from around the world and make passports and stamps for each country visited. Chinese calligraphy, Ethiopian beading, Guatemalan worry dolls, Iranian tiles, Italian majolica, and Peruvian weaving are just some of the traditions that will be covered. Campers will create projects inspired by their travels.
August 6th - 10th - Sound-Makers!
In this session campers will explore how sound and the visual arts meet. Different types of music and contemporary art will be covered, such as Nick Cave and his sound suits. Clay, mixed media sculpture, and textiles will be used to make objects that produce sound. Campers will bring their creations to life through performance.
Classes run Monday to Friday, from 9:00AM to 3:30PM.
Cost: $200.00 per session (Includes All Art Supplies and Materials)
Before Care: 8AM – 9AM; Cost: $30/week
After Care: 3:30PM – 5:30PM; Cost: $60/week
Cost for both Before and After Care: $75/week
Late Pickup Fee: $15 for each quarter of an hour after 5:30
