Jose Sierra

José Sierra was born in Mérida, Venezuela and currently works and lives in Tucson, AZ. His sculptural vessels are a hybrid of pre - Colombian art and contemporary design. The natural colors of the Andes and Catalina Mountains inspire the palette of glazes used on his thrown and alerted forms. He was introduced to ceramics at the University of the Andes in Mérida, Venezuela. Sierra’s exhibition, South x Midwest, opened at Red Star Studios in December 2009.
