Brian Giniewski feed

Brian Giniewski employs an expanded library of materials to create propositions which poke at the complicated and blurry distinctions between image and object, high and low, art and craft. The edition "Paperweights" plays on themes of supplementarity and dependency through the guise of an object whose feeble utility alludes to art's aversion to usefulness. Brian's studio practice vacillates between work in two and three dimensions, and the transition between these ways of working inform both his works on paper and his sculptural objects, forcing him to consider and exploit the formal and semantic properties of each. The series of paper collages entitled “Foil” is evidence of this process. Giniewski manipulates and assembles bits of material to form compositions that are at once dissonant and harmonic and speak to the tactility and directness of his process.

Giniewski works as a freelance digital fabrication and design consultant, and is the coordinator of the Ceramics program at the Chautauqua School of Art in Chautauqua, NY. He also works as Woodshop Technician in Syracuse University's Department of Design. Previously, Brian was a Resident Artist at The Clay Studio in Philadelphia and has taught at Arcadia University, Penn State University and the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design.  He earned an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2009 and a BFA from Millersville University in 2006.
